SHARING RESOURCES

Resource sharing makes Heifers vision of a world of communities free of hunger and poverty sustainable. This goes beyond merely giving people animals or goods, becoming a beautiful act of hope, of passing on the gift.

The pass-on chain adds value to material resources. Each family cares for the animal it receives with great dedication and responsibility, and receives training to constantly increase the familys capabilities.

Heifer International is governed by a series of principles called Cornerstones for Just and Sustainable Development. These 12 principles have grown out of more than 60 years of successful efforts to combat hunger and poverty. In English, they form the acronym Passing on the Gifts, and it is the essence of these cornerstones that makes Heifer a unique, sustainable program. As a values-based organization, Heifer is committed to reflecting these cornerstones in its work.
